Friends no matter how far away

This past year we made wonderful new friends. Our girls and I. We were hoping to hold them close for a while but earlier this spring we got the news that their stay here in Boston would be shorter than expected and they would be moving away.  You can only imagine our shock, disappointment and sorrow after that.

I had the opportunity to take pictures of our friends for them. This woman is absolutely amazing. Mother of five. One has left the nest already. She's truly beautiful inside out. Her two youngest ones have become great friends for our girls. And we all cherish these friendships.

After we moved to Boston area more than seven years ago I have never taken friendship for granted. It was very hard to find friends here. During these years I have managed to meet truly wonderful people and become friends with them. I've also had to say good bye to some of these friends. I can tell you it's not easy. Not in the slightest. I miss each and everyone of them. The best thing though about friendship is that if it's true it will last the test of distance.

The hardest for me has been seeing how my children are taking this and how they are so very upset about loosing their buddies. It's hard for an adult to see a friend move away. I can only imagine what my little ones are going through. We try to talk about it but there's still emotions and questions that stay unsurfaced.

In a way we're lucky. Things could be worse. These lovelies could be moving to a country that we wouldn't be traveling to at all. However, we'll meet them again in Finland. This summer. Already looking forward to it. ❤️

Finland special: summer sessions

This summer I'll be working in Europe. I'm hoping to get some well deserved down time as well.

Some of you may know that I'm a Finn and all of my family is still there. So every year I try to get back home. I can't stop thinking about seeing family and friends, going to sauna by the lake (every day) and all the goodies I cannot get here. (Hello few extra pounds.... :D)

I'm super excited to be able to offer some sessions this summer for the first time in Finland. YAY! These sessions will be offered both in Lahti and Tampere regions.

Would you like to have your family pictures taken? Did you get engaged earlier and didn't get engagement pictures taken? Are you celebrating a special occasion? Maybe a wedding anniversary? A birthday with a 0 in the number? Or a child's birthday? Are you expecting a baby and would like to get maternity pictures taken? These and many other occasions not mentioned here are all worthy of a photography session.

The price for a session is 480euro. This price will include the session fee as well as 15 hand edited, high resolution digital images delivered to you within 5 weeks from your session. I will also include smaller sized digital images with watermarks for social media sharing. The longer delivery time is due to my extended travels in Europe this summer.

If you are interested in booking a photography session with me you can contact me through the contact page  HERE. Or you can send me email directly to christina@cwilburphotography.com The sooner you arrange this the better chance you have to get a spot. I'll be able to do only a handful of sessions so don't wait.

Family S. - Foss Farm, Carlisle, MA

Late November I had a chance to take pictures of little cutie pie named Layla and her sweet family. Layla was turning 1 and the intention was to take her 1-year photos as well as family pictures during their session. By family I mean the immediate family but this time also the extended family with grandparents and an auntie.

"I called Christina to set up a relatively last minute extended family photo shoot just before Thanksgiving.  I hadn't really thought through any of the details other than we'd have out of town family all in town at the same time.  When we met to talk through the process, Christina was fantastic in listening to what I was looking for and immediately had some ideas of locations.  She provided some ideas of good color options, since I'm helpless when it comes to that and had no ideas walking into our meeting.  After our meeting, I felt confident that we were in good hands, and trusted that Christina would help us through the entire process."

"The session was cold and windy, but that's what you get in late November!  Christina managed the entire session well, and gave us breaks to warm up quickly before the next photos.  She came to the session with clear ideas and talked us through everything.  With a one year old, you never know what you're going to get, but Christina talked us through the different poses and all of them worked really well and Layla (by some miracle) cooperated."

"Once we got the whole family there, Christina was very efficient in moving through the multitude of photo combinations which helped minimize the time everyone was out in the cold and wind.  She even brought some warm apple cider to help everyone warm up after the photos were over.  We left the session feeling really great about the photos Christina captured and were anxiously awaiting the email telling us our photos were ready!"

"We were so excited to see the first couple sneak peek photos pop up on Christina's Facebook page, and couldn't wait to see the rest. Even though it was a busy time of year with everyone's holiday photos, Christina still got our pictures to us quickly.  It was even in time for us to get them onto our holiday cards!"

"We were thrilled with the quality of the photos.  Layla's pictures turned out so adorable - Christina captured so many special little moments and facial expressions.  The photos of the extended family turned out incredible - it shows how much love there is in this family.  We'll cherish these photos for a long time to come!"

Hearing back from a happy client is my driving force! I love what I do. I love to create family treasures as well as memories. In addition of having their family pictures taken, this family will forever remember how bitterly cold and windy it was that day but they were such troopers all of them. Thank you Family S. for letting me take your pictures!

Meteorological spring is here. March has arrived. The weather is doing crazy things over here in Massachusetts. We had +21C one day at the end of February. Felt like summer. And then before that we had two snow storms with 60cm of snow and it all melted within two weeks. All completely gone. If Mother Nature is done with winter lets start thinking about spring and summer.

I'll be announcing my spring session dates soon. So keep your eyes peeled for that information. on FB and also here in the blog. But before that lets go back to last summer and to this wonderful family session I had with our neighbours. Such lovely people. And I had the privilege to photograph also the grandparents who were visiting from India.

I was very lucky to have the mother of the family write a bit about their experience in front of my camera.

"Having seen your wonderful photography before, it was exciting to prepare for the photoshoot.  We have only ever had in-studio pictures done before, so we were looking forward to more a more candid, comfortable experience, which you really delivered."

"Of course we know you, but I think regardless, your warmth makes you approachable for questions, like - what should we wear?!  As a family photographer, it's important to be flexible, since kids' moods are unpredictable, and we appreciated your flexibility and ability to work with us."

"The session went really smoothly.  I really appreciated that you took the time to research an appropriate location thoroughly ahead of time.  In fact, thanks to our photo session, I now know of an arboretum that I never knew existed before this!  In general, I appreciated the thoroughness of your preparations - location, poses, potential hurdles like weather and light, etc.  I also felt that in directing us you anticipated most of our questions, which shows a great understanding of people and families, in particular."

"We loved the pictures, and they were prompt and very easy to access.  I liked the amount of freedom I had once the pictures were in my hands, and I ALSO liked that you gave me a recommendation of where I could get some pictures printed in case I didn't want too much freedom ;-)."

"Thanks for a great experience, Christina!  We recommended you to multiple friends who also enjoyed their pictures and experiences."

Thank YOU! It was an honor to capture your family pictures for you to treasure in future! I hope will have the chance to do it again soon.

Three little cuties - family photo session for Family S. in Concord, MA

Today was a cold blustery day. On a day like this it's nice to think back to summer and the great families I was able to capture on my camera. Family S. was one of them. Such a lovely family! The children stole my heart. Especially little P. What a charmer!

Weather was very fickle during this session. We had pretty much it all. We had very dark and gloomy clouds. We had some rain. It was windy and the sun did pop out from behind the clouds at the end of the session.

The mother of the family was so kind to write few words about their experience in front of my camera.

"I am really glad we chose Christina Wilbur to take photos of our family this summer!  My friend recommended Christina after Christina took some precious photos of her daughter."

"I was a bit worried because it was raining as we were driving to Concord for the photo shoot.  While we waited for the rain to stop, Christina suggested we take some photos under a large tree.  The kids were excited to climb in the tree and quickly forgot about the rain.  Of course our 2 year old had to get in the tree like his older siblings!"

"Luckily the rain let up and we were able to take photos in the garden, in the meadow, on a stone wall, and at the North Bridge.  The kids enjoyed running around as we walked between the spots.  They were really cooperative, presumably because they were having fun."

"Christina was very patient and seemed happy to spend as much time as necessary to get some great shots. "

"After the photo shoot, Christina was very quick to edit the photos and share them with us.  It was easy to download this files and share them with friends and family.  We loved the photos!  Overall, it was a great experience working with Christina."

Thank you so much Mrs. S. for writing about your family photo session experience. I had such a lovely time with you and your family.

Trees and more trees

Earlier in the summer I had a photoshoot with quite a big family. Parents and five children aging from kindergartener to 8th grader. You can imagine there was no dull moment, lots of action, lots of running around and lots of tree climbing. Yes, you read correctly!

I'll let the mother of Family S. tell you about the shoot.

"We never had our pictures taken when we got married as young students, so for our 15th wedding anniversary I thought to surprise my husband. I arranged a photoshoot with a professional photographer to take family pictures and to finally get that wedding picture that we missed fifteen years ago."

"I fell in love with Christina Wilbur's pictures and arranged the photoshoot. We took the pictures in a beautiful setting in Concord, MA. Absolutely perfect surrounding for the pictures."

"I told my husband and children that we were going to eat out in a fancy restaurant so they had to dress up. The surprise was total success and my husband was in complete awe when we arrived in the photo shoot location. Only one of our boys was not so enamoured with the idea of pictures and didn't want to come out of the car. We did manage to lure him out in the end and got his spirits up and beautiful pictures."

"The park as a location was spot on for our family. The children love climbing in trees and Christina got great pictures of them in their element."

"In addition we got lovely family pictures as well as the forgotten wedding picture."

"Even though there were lots of models (2 adults and 5 children) and things got a bit crazy at times, the pictures convey real feelings and they were perfect. I can highly recommend Christina to take your family pictures."
